Yale offers writing and math/science tutors for each residential college. Calhoun's writing tutor, Jan Hortas, is Director of the English Language Institute. You can make an appointment with any writing tutor online. Jan Hortas is available to work with you on any writing project--course essays, personal statements, application essays, and creative projects--and at any stage in the writing process, from defining the focus of a longer essay to first drafts to final revisions. Brainstorming to generate ideas at the beginning of the project is also a productive and useful part of the creative process.
Please bring copy of your draft, any notes, and the assignment itself. Having the draft in advance is helpful--please e-mail it to the tutor in advance of your meeting. For most essays a 30-minute appointment works well. Please avoid signing up for a 15-minute appointment and e-mail your tutor if that is the only remaining spot.
